The recommended daily intake amount for water is to drink half your body weight in ounces. That means, a 150 pound person should drink 75 ounces of water each day. If a glass of water is 8 ounces, that is roughly 9 1/2 glasses of water daily to be properly hydrated.
Dehydration occurs when the body does not have enough water to function at a peak level. The two types of dehydration are:
Mild dehydration – This causes fatigue or lack of alertness. It can lead to headaches or muscle cramps as the body uses more of its own water to function.
Severe dehydration – This can cause irritability, shortness of breath, dizziness, or even shock.
Different research studies have claimed that every 1% that you are dehydrated can cause a decrease of up to 5% in cognitive function. Drinking only five 16 ounce glasses of water a day will increase your cognitive performance by a great deal.
